BorderPlus Is Connecting Skilled Talent With Global Careers

International career opportunities can offer skilled professionals new possibilities, but moving abroad for work often involves language barriers, complex documentation, qualification recognition and relocation challenges. BorderPlus, a talent mobility startup founded by Mayank Kumar and Ayush Mathur, is building a business around simplifying this journey.

Launched in January 2025, the company connects blue-collar and grey-collar professionals with overseas employers. It initially focused on healthcare recruitment, particularly helping Indian nurses pursue career opportunities in Germany.

From Edtech And Hospitality To Global Talent Mobility

Before launching BorderPlus, Mayank Kumar co-founded upGrad, an Indian edtech company, while Ayush Mathur held senior leadership roles at OYO, including President of OYO Europe. The two founders had previously worked together at consulting firm Parthenon Group.

Their experience exposed them to a growing mismatch between international workforce demand and the availability of skilled workers. BorderPlus was created to help bridge this gap by preparing candidates for overseas employment and connecting them with employers seeking qualified talent.

Building A Complete Pathway To Overseas Employment

Rather than focusing solely on recruitment, BorderPlus combines multiple stages of the international employment process. Its model includes candidate screening, language training, cultural preparation, employer matching, visa assistance and support with professional qualification recognition.

For healthcare professionals targeting Germany, language proficiency and familiarity with workplace expectations are particularly important. BorderPlus offers structured training programmes designed to help candidates prepare for these requirements before moving abroad.

The company also acquired German healthcare recruitment firm Onea Care in April 2025, strengthening its presence in the destination market and its ability to connect healthcare professionals with local employers.

Although healthcare remains central to its initial business, BorderPlus has outlined plans to expand into sectors such as hospitality, retail, education, construction and logistics, alongside additional international markets.

Funding Its Expansion

In February 2025, BorderPlus raised $7 million in funding led by Owl Ventures. The round also included investors such as Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal, OYO founder Ritesh Agarwal and CaratLane founder Mithun Sacheti.

The company said the funding would support technology development, stronger employer partnerships and expansion through acquisitions. Its broader ambition is to build a more integrated talent mobility platform rather than operate as a conventional recruitment agency.

BorderPlus is also exploring technology-led tools to support language learning and candidate preparation, helping make training more accessible as the business grows.

Connecting Skills With International Demand

For BorderPlus, the opportunity lies in creating a structured route between professionals seeking better career prospects and employers looking for skilled workers. Its model brings training, recruitment and relocation support together under one platform.

As the company expands beyond Germany and healthcare, its ability to build trusted employer relationships, prepare candidates for different markets and navigate local employment requirements will be central to its growth.

BorderPlus is positioning itself at the intersection of workforce development and international recruitment, with the aim of making global career opportunities more accessible to skilled professionals.
